Hand warmer care
Filling the Zippo Hand Warmer
- Make sure the hand warmer is cool. Remove the hand warmer lid, burner and hold lengthwise (vertically with the Zippo logo). The burner unit may be narrow.
- Pour Zippo gasoline into the appropriate 6- or 12-hour plastic refill container. Do not drip.
- For 6-hour hand warmers: Fill to the 6-hour line / For 12-hour hand warmers: Fill to the 12-hour line.
- Do not fill above the line specified for your particular hand warmer.
- Slowly and carefully pour the contents of the filling container into the filling opening of the hand warmer, holding the hand warmer in an upright position.
- Do not overfill. Overfilling creates a risk of injury and fire.
- Hold the hand warmer upright and carefully replace the burner section making sure it is fully seated.
- Carefully wipe excess gasoline from surfaces and allow excess fuel to evaporate before lighting.
- Before starting, make sure the fuel canister is closed and there is no spilled fuel nearby. Fuel is flammable.
- Before igniting, allow the hand warmer to stand upright for at least two minutes so that the fuel is completely distributed in the absorbent material and becomes available to the burner.
- Do not put down the hand warmer after filling and before lighting. When lying down, liquid gasoline can get into the burner, which can cause a flame if ignited.
- If a visible flame occurs, it must be extinguished. The flame can usually be blown out easily, but be extremely careful. If necessary, place the hand warmer on a fireproof surface and allow the flame to extinguish or extinguish in a safe manner.
